Why We’re Here

Posted by:

Recently on the greenestbeans.com Facebook page I posted an infographic detailing a handful of the estimated three hundred symptoms that may be associated with celiac disease. Someone I have been friends with since elementary school saw the post and replied that she had more than half the symptoms listed. She wondered what type of testing might be involved and why, if she had celiac disease, would it not have been diagnosed by this point in her life. I shared with her a few of the things I have learned about celiac disease – including the fact that it can be very difficult to diagnose. So difficult, in fact, that an estimated 83% of people who have celiac disease are either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. I also shared the link to a blog post on celiac disease that I wrote a few weeks ago. My friend replied that she thought she would try going gluten-free for a while, using greenestbeans.com to help find food, and see how she felt.

That right there is why we’re here. We created greenestbeans.com to be free to consumers with the hope that we could change people’s lives for the better by making it easier for them to find good food. The definition of good food may change depending on who you are. If you are someone living with celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity then good food is gluten-free. If your child has ADHD or autism then good food may be dye-free. If you are part of the 3.5% of the population who is diagnosed annually with Irritable Bowel Syndrome then good food may include items which are lactose-free. Maybe you are just looking to easily find organic or non-GMO food. The point is greenestbeans.com has something for everyone.

In addition to making it easier for people to find food, we would like to get people thinking and talking about food. Food should be the fuel you use to keep your body strong and healthy. Eating is the one thing you do several times a day every day of your life and doing it right can have an enormous impact on your health, as can doing it wrong. Growing evidence supports the role of food in numerous diseases. Just this weekend I met a woman who is living with Multiple Sclerosis. She said she had recently undergone extensive food allergy testing and was awaiting her test results as there is an increasing belief that nutrition may play a role in both who might be susceptible to the disease and management of disease symptoms.

Diet is no longer associated solely with such obvious conditions as heart disease and obesity. There is ongoing research on the role of diet in the prevention and/or treatment of numerous conditions. Be informed about what you choose to put in your body. With time we hope to grow the greenestbeans.com community and make it a place where people can both find information about food and discuss food issues with other like-minded individuals. In order to do that we need your help. If you find our site helpful please take a few minutes to create a free account (we will never sell or share your information, nor will we spam you or fill your inbox with junk), like us on Facebook, and/or follow us on Twitter. Tell your friends and family about us and encourage them to check us out. Email us at info@greenestbeans.com with suggestions for other food attributes or any other feedback you might have.
